ANDIEZ Once Upon A Time There was A Girl Who Really Loved Hummingbirds It was Me Poster

A mum has transformed her bathroom into an epic mermaid paradise after being inspired by Disney princess Ariel.

Mel Hamblett, an interior design fan and owner of successful Instagram account @awholenewbuild, has turned her plain new build bathroom into the most colourful Disney-inspired sanctuary.

The mum-of-one wanted to turn her bathroom with magnolia walls into a ‘fun and whimsical’ place to relax.

Speaking to bathroom specialists Drench.Co.Uk, she said: “Originally a standard magnolia new build bathroom with no character, I knew I wanted to create a relaxing space that was still fun and whimsical.

“Themed around my favourite film, The Little Mermaid, I searched for pastel pink and mint shades to paint the walls and tiles, then created accents of gold on the taps, wall art and accessories.

The bespoke floor was then colour matched to the paint colours I had chosen by @forthefloorandmore to really bring the room and mermaid theme together.”

Mel, who lives with her husband and five-year-old son in Gloucestershire, said on an Instagram post: “We moved into our Leicester-style new build home back in 2014, but having a small person put decorating on hold. (and the things I did do were simply quite awful… I post a lot of before and afters for you to laugh at!)

“During lockdown, we started to make some changes adding colour and fun to our magnolia walls, where I developed a love for upcycling furniture and decorating.

Mel’s bathroom used pink, mint green and purple colours to create the mermaid look

“After being inspired by the epic mermaid bathroom over at @homeofgetkooky and the pastel Queen @paintthetownpastel, my very understanding husband told me I could do what I wanted in here, so now I have a shrine to ma girl, Ariel!”

Mel created the look with a gold mermaid silhouette wall decal, pink and purple shell patterned wallpaper, mermaid scale patterned flooring plus LED lighting, a glow-up pearl and clam light, and Little Mermaid figurines.
