CEO of suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (Calm), Simon Gunning said: “Suicide remains the biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK, with 11 men taking their own lives everyday in England and Wales. That is unacceptable.
“Right now more people than ever are contacting Calm and accessing our services which is a good sign that we are reaching people and they feel able to reach out for help. However, while progress has been made in recent years to change the discourse and help people open up about how they feel, there’s still a long way to go in tackling the stigma surrounding mental health and empowering men to seek the help they need at the earliest stage. Mr Easey explained that since Max passed away, the whole family and wider community have become far more aware of the tragic statistics of male suicide.
“The fact that suicide remains the single biggest killer of boys and young men simply must change,” he said.
